Why Enter

To demonstrate your cooking skills
To prove your ability to cope in a demanding situation
To prove your organisational and planning skills
To show your ability to work industriously and co-operatively in pairs
To win an automatic entry to a wider regional competition.
All competitors will receive a Certificate. The winner of the school competitions and the will receive prizes and their schools will receive a commemorative plaque.

Who can enter

All MMackay District High School Students in the following two divisions:

· Years 9 and 10
· Years 11 and 12

How the competition is run

Preliminary heats will take place at your own school during 2nd term to suit the Home Economics/Catering Department. On that date, Judges will be provided by sponsoring Rotary Club/s.

You are asked to work in pairs to prepare a one course main meal suitable for two people. Cost of ingredients not to exceed $15.00. Details of purchases and receipts are to be provided by the entrants. You will be expected to follow a written time-plan and marks will be given for this, co-operation with your partner, cooking skills, presentation of dish and flavour of final meal

You may use convenience foods but credit will be given for cookery skills used within the 1 1/2 hours time limit.

The winners of each school competition will then be invited to take part in the finals which includes schools from all over the Mackay district.

For further information your Home Economics/Catering teacher has a full set of the Rules together with an Entry Form for your school.

The Rules

PRELIMINARY HEATS:
To take place within your own school during Term One or early Term Two in  the school year

1. Working in pairs you are asked to prepare a healthy, one course main meal suitable for two people.

2. Cost of ingredients not to exceed $15.00. Details of purchases and receipts are to be provided by entrants.

3. You will be expected to work from a written time-plan and marks will be given for this, co-operation with your partner, cooking skills, presentation of dish and flavour of final meal

4. You may use convenience foods but credit will be given for cookery skills, i.e. if you make your own pastry, within the 1-½ hours time limit

FINALS:
To take place later in Term 2 at a venue to be advised

1. Working in pairs you are asked to prepare a healthy, two course main meal and dessert suitable for two people. The main meal may be the same or different from those prepared in the earlier heats. Cost of ingredients not to exceed $25.00. Details of purchases and receipts are to be provided by entrants. These costs will be reimbursed by Rotary.

2. You will be expected to work from a written time-plan and provide a written menu and marks will be given for this and co-operation with your partner, cooking skills, presentation of dishes and flavour of the two dishes.

3. You may use convenience foods but credit will be given for cookery skills, i.e. if you make your own pastry, within the 2 hour time limit.
