Mark Pillar
I am delighted and honored to be the team leader for District 6580’s GSE visit to District 9570 in Australia. Our thoughts and prayers have been with you since your recent disasters.
My wife, Linda, and I have lived in Columbus, Indiana since 1991. I entered the U.S. Air Force in 1971 after graduating from the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana. and I met there but never dated each other. We were married in 1974. I stayed on active duty in the Air Force till 1978. At that time I entered the Air Force Reserve from which I retired in 2008 after 37 total years of service. Over that time period I commanded a flying squadron, operations group and was vice-commander of two wings and a numbered Air Force. My last assignment was working in Air Force Acquisitions in the Pentagon. I retired as a Major General.
Also in 1978, I was hired by Delta Air Lines. I continued both careers until 2005 when I retired from Delta as an International Boeing 767-ER Captain. I have flown all over the world (except for Australia) in various types of aircraft and have nearly 23,000 hours of flying time.
Linda and I have 2 grown children: Matt, 29, and Lacey, 26. Matt works locally and lives at home. Lacey married a year and a half ago and lives in Louisville, Kentucky with her husband. Linda and I have traveled extensively and hopefully she will join me when our GSE duties are done. She enjoys quilting, scrapbooking, reading, antique hunting and, of course, antique buying.
I have been a Rotarian for only 4 years because both of my jobs took me out of town. I have been membership chairman for 2 years and also involved with GSE for 2 years. I am an American Red Cross Disaster Volunteer and serve on the local BOD as the Philanthropy Chair. I also serve on the BOD of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic and am Vice President of the University of Evansville Alumni BOD. I am also a 32nd Degree Mason.
My hobbies include golf, racquetball, reading, travel and music.
Marc Sreczyk
Marc Steczyk is the Town Manager of Ferdinand, Indiana, a small town of approximately 2,500 situated in the gentle, rolling hills of southwestern Indiana. He manages 19 full time employees in the Town Office, Electric and Water Department, Wastewater Department, Street Department, and the Police Department. He also oversees the Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department, which employs (part time) 33 fire fighters. As Ferdinand's first Town Manager, Marc is also one of the first three town managers (and youngest) to have ever been nominated to sit on the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns (IACT) Board of Directors.
As Town Manager, Marc handles the day-to-day operations for the Town of Ferdinand, and, in addition to overseeing all departments, he acts as the Town's human resources coordinator, assists the department supervisors with purchases and contracts, oversees safety concerns, works on potential marketing ideas/campaigns, and addresses any concerns members of the community might have.
He graduated from Franklin College (Indiana) in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism (public relations emphasis) and earned a Masters of Science degree in Management from Oakland City University (Indiana) in 2007. He previously worked as Communications Director for the Town of Fishers, Indiana, for nearly 2 1/2 years and, prior to that, was the Assistant Directors of the Communications Office for the Indiana Department of Education for nearly eight years.
In his spare time, Marc enjoys working and relaxing on the family farm, walking his dog Wrigley (named after Wrigley Field), camping, hiking, and playing sports. He is the 7th grade boys basketball coach for Forest Park Jr./Sr. High School in Ferdinand and very much enjoys watching all types of sporting events. While basketball is an obvious passion, so are American football, baseball, and tennis events.
As one of the founders of Ferdinand's first and only music festival (Ferdinand Folk Festival), he is also a big fan of a wide range of styles of music and is a very, very novice guitar player.
Marc's wife, Emi, is an instructional aid at Cedar Crest Intermediate School in the Southeast Dubois County School Corporation.
